Storage is always a problem. One of the reasons I choose this trailer was because of its storage possibilities. The huge back storage bin was accessible from a large outside door. This bin ran under the bed and was accessible by lifting the bed. Some trailers had the storage but not the large door. The first step was to pick up three Rubber Maid storage containers which were a tight fit across the space.
There was wasted space above the containers so I built a couple of boxes to fit in the space. The space above the containers was 8 inches deep by 45 inches long by 28 inches wide. There is minimal space around the bed so I that it had to be two boxes. Thus the box was 7.5 inches by 14 inches by 44 inches. The boxes are constructed from some left over 1/2 inch shop Birtch and 1/4 inch shop red Oak plywood. The corners are a simple rabbit on the short sides then glued and nailed.
Cleats were screwed into the inside ends of the box to provide a place to grip To hang the boxes under the bed I wanted something that would not require any changes to the framework under and would not lift the bed. Joist or strap hangers are thin metal used in construction. They worked perfectly for this application. ![]() I made two of the boxes and they fit like a charm. ![]() |
