Section 4 Legs

section 3 - Vise

The base starts with 4 legs. The legs are of 4X4 Douglas Fir cut to 33 inches long. The length was chosen to give me a bench top height of 36 inches with a top of 4 layers of ¾ MDF.

Holes for the rails are laid out as shown below.

Top at both ends.

Bottom at both ends.

Top, front right and left rear. The front left and right rear will have the verticle line 3/4 inch in from the left side of the leg rather than on the right as shown.

Bottom, front right and left rear. The front left and right rear will have the verticle line 3/4 inch in from the left side of the leg rather than on the right as shown.

Mark the top of the legs RF – Right front, LF – Left front, RR, LR.

Layout on one side of each leg as shown in the front and rear pictures of the ends for the top and bottom. Mark the intersections with a punch then bore the countersinks with a 1 in. Forstner bit as shown below.

Next step is to bore 3/8 holes in the center of the counter bores.
