Next step is to build the stretchers. Use 2 by material cut to 54 inches long for a 72 inch top, one inch over hang at one end and 10 inch overhang at the other. The long overhang is for a planned twin screw end vise one of these days. As before, use the holes in the legs as a guide, cut 1 inch counter sinks and square off the edge of the counterbore. I cut a spacer for the bottom stretchers to insure alignment and the end result is as you see below.
I plan to build in a place in the base for large tool storage and places in the end for small tools and maybe a saw till. The base will be ½ in. plywood. The back and ends will be 3/8 in. plywood. The reason for these dimensions is based on what I have on hand. For that a step was routed on the inside of the ends and around the back. Another step was routed on the inside of the lower stretchers before assembly.

It is not necessary to use a router, cleats will do the job just as well.
